INTRODUCTION The Parenteral refers to injectable route of administration. It derived from a Greek word Para (means outside), enteron (means intestine) & Dentons (route of administration other than oral route). DEFINITION Parenteral preparations or injectables are the sterile solutions or suspensions of drugs in aqueous or oily vehicles meant for introduction into the body by means of an injection under or through one or more layers of the skin or mucous membrane. OFFICIAL TYPES OF INJECTABLES According to the USP, injectable materials are separate into five general types. These may contain buffers, preservatives, and other added substances. 1. Injection 2.
